Midnight Dazzle X Shirley Farmer
Benz '04, tet, Dor-M, re, 28", 3-4 way branching with a bud count of 30; 4" black purple with thin gold edge and some teeth. This was a small plant when it arrived in late spring so it did not bloom for me. I do have some concerns about its being too hard a dormant for north Georgia since I had to send its parent Shirley Farmer back up north just to survive. However, I have had Midnight Dazzle in my garden for years and even though it is considered a hard dormant, it does beautifully here. We will have to wait until next year to find out if this will make it here.

2008 Update: This still did not bloom this year and its surviving but I believe this takes after Shirley and really wants a winter with extended freezes to really thrive well. If it doesn't bloom in 2009, it will have to find a home way up north. A shame since with that pedigree it should produce some really nice toothy kids if crossed with other toothy things where the edge gene is not recessive.
